There were widespread reports on social media after an Everton fan who met Moyes in a Manchester hotel tweeted the same. Apparently, Moyes was very critical of the hostile abuse from fans of the club where he served as manager for 11 years. The user (@daveywallbank) has since deleted his account after the post went viral.
A spokesperson from the club did confirm that Moyes had met the fan and had even taken a photograph together. But she also said that Moyes denied ever having uttered the phrase about the Everton fans.
